My Comments....

Hi folks....

It's a dilemma, of sorts. Do I let the photos speak for themselves, without words? Or, do i offer a thought, or some background information along with them? I would imagine that many people who take photos and display them wonder the same thing at some point. I can see the merits of both approaches, but for my purposes here - I've decided to run with the latter of the choices.

For me, I judge a photo by how it makes me feel.  Do I want to be there?  What was happening when that picture was taken?  What did it feel like to be there? Those are the things I wonder. So, I've decided to leave comments under some, if not many, of the photos here. The comments are merely descriptions of what the shot means to me, how it makes me feel, what it was like to be there, or -maybe to tell you why the shot is important to me.

I've worked for 28 years in a medium that was/is completely auditory. Maybe that's why I love shooting photo's so much. No sound. Just vision. But nobody said vision couldn't be accompanied by a little written word? Right?

Anyway- I hope the comments add a little something to each image. Reading them, is completely your choice.

And please- feel free to leave your own comments as well. If a photo makes you feel a certain way, or makes you think of a certain thing - I'd certainly love to hear it, if you'd like to share it. Again - completely your choice.

Thanks very much for checking out the site! The response has been incredible! I truly appreciate it!

Best,

Greg

Hi Greg, I follow you on Facebook and I LOVE your stories and descriptions! Almost as much as I love your photos. I just sent your link to someone who is not on FB and told her to make sure she read your descriptions for each photo, and when I clicked many of them there was no description. Please add them. They are beautiful and one of the things that sets you apart from the others. You are truly an artist!

Why can't you do both? Have one that is pict only, another with an inspiring/crafty line. People can choose for themselves which they would rather buy/share. Could it be redundant? Perhaps, but just do it to a few of your favorite images and see what happens. The feed back will speak for itself.

Normally I would say no comments but you sir are different....the comments I have seen are short concise and introspective...."sometimes all you have to do is look up" [paraphrased] I think a derrivative of your career behind the mic...you know how to say something great in a few short words....

There's a story in every image. No one truly knows what the photographer was really feeling, or what the true story is behind each image unless the story is told. To me, a story can help the viewer get a bit more from the image. Some images require no story, as the images does in fact speak for itself. I saw an image the other day of a firefighter carrying a dog out of a burning house. The image told it's own story of heroism. It all depends on the actual image being displayed. For example, an image I captured entitled "Lonely" has a wonderful heart warming story about an old man on a park bench, where as a photograph I shot of a brightly colored spider at Portland Head Light though "cool", is just a spider.

You're images inspire me, not only to be the best photographer I can be, but the best overall person for my children, family and friends. Life is held in a delicate balance. You capture it's moments in a very unique and special way. If I've learned but one thing..."stop and smell the roses". Thank you for that!
